'Lady in Clothier'
In Toronto, Ontario, there is a little clothier hidden away in a stone alleyway. For those who don't know, a 'clothier' is a person or company that makes, sells, or deals in clothes or cloth. The woman trying on the beautiful yellow dress at the clothier in the frigid winter of Toronto wore it to a wedding a few weeks later in the tropical weather of the West Indies.
'Lady in Clothier' is a 31.5" x 23.5" acrylic on canvas painting of a woman trying on a new dress in a clothier. In this 2016 work by Ben Miley, 'Lady in Clothier' suspends the act of self judgement and how the way in which we think we are perceived is almost always different than how others actually perceive us.
